The Count Monthly: April 2026

Welcome to the April edition of The Count Monthly. This month, we’re sharing important updates across tax, superannuation, company compliance and anti-money laundering obligations, along with a look at some recent Count Gold Coast community initiatives.

If you have questions about any of the topics below, please contact the Count Gold Coast team on 1300 667 897.

Beware of Misleading ASIC-Style Notices

Some clients have recently received official-looking letters from “Registration Pty Ltd” or reg.com.au about a supposed “Company Review” or “ASIC Annual Review fee”.

These notices may include correct company details, such as the company name and ACN, and may request payment of around $449 through a website or QR code.

This correspondence is not from ASIC and is not connected to your company’s legitimate annual review.

If you receive a notice of this kind:

  • Do not pay it.
  • Do not provide personal or payment information.
  • Ignore or securely dispose of the notice.
  • If unsure, contact Count Gold Coast before taking action.

You can also check your company details and fee status directly through ASIC or ASIC Connect.

FBT Year-End Reminder

The Fringe Benefits Tax year ended on 31 March 2026, so now is a timely moment to review any non-cash benefits provided to employees, directors or their associates.

This may include:

  • Private use of company vehicles
  • Entertainment
  • Gifts and vouchers
  • Certain expense payments

Reviewing your records now can help confirm whether an FBT return is required and identify opportunities to manage or reduce your FBT exposure.

Payday Super Starts From 1 July 2026

From 1 July 2026, employers will need to pay superannuation on payday, rather than quarterly.

Super contributions must reach the employee’s fund within seven business days of each payday. A new concept called “qualifying earnings” will also replace ordinary time earnings for calculating super.

Employers should start reviewing payroll systems and processes now to prepare for these changes.

For support, contact the Count Bookkeeping team at [email protected] or call 1300 667 897.

AML/CTF Changes From 1 July 2026

Upcoming changes to Australia’s Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing laws will affect certain businesses from 1 July 2026.

These changes may apply to services provided by “Tranche 2” entities, including:

  • Real estate and conveyancing businesses
  • Legal and accounting practices
  • Trust and company service providers
  • Dealers in high-value goods, such as jewellers

From 1 July 2026, affected businesses will need an AML/CTF program in place to help identify and manage risks relating to money laundering, terrorism financing and proliferation financing.

Count Gold Coast will also be implementing updated business practices, particularly around more stringent identity screening. We will provide further information in the lead-up to the changes.

EOFY Tax Planning

With the end of the financial year approaching, now is the time to review your tax position and consider planning opportunities before 30 June.

Areas to consider include:

  • Prepaying deductible expenses
  • Reviewing super contributions
  • Managing capital gains
  • Ensuring records are complete and up to date
  • Checking eligibility for available concessions

Proactive planning can help improve tax outcomes and reduce last-minute stress.

Supporting Our Local Community

Count Gold Coast is proud to support local community causes through several recent initiatives.

  • Salvation Army: Following the Christmas Toy Drive, Count GC made a further one-off donation of more than $5,000 to support families in need.
  • Youth Outreach: Count GC contributed to Youth Outreach in recognition of the important residential housing and support services it provides to homeless youth on the Gold Coast.
  • Future2 Foundation: Count GC supported the Future2 “Make the Difference” Grants program, which funds grassroots projects providing financial education, mentoring and support across Australia.

Count Chairman Julie Berry also participated in the “Walk the Great Wall for Future2” challenge, helping raise funds while taking part in an unforgettable experience at the Great Wall of China.

These initiatives are made possible through the support of the Count Charitable Foundation.
